Design and Demonstration of a Novel Long-Range Photon-Counting 3D Imaging LiDAR with 32 × 32 Transceivers

Geiger-mode single-photon LiDAR is an important tool for long-distance three-dimensional remote sensing. A planar-array-based photon counting that uses 32-by-32 fiber arrays coupled to optical lens as a transceiver unit was developed. Using transmitters and receivers with the same design, proposed device easily achieves high-precision alignment of 1024 pixels flexible detection field-of-view design. The set relay lenses couple echoes from receiving planar-array detector, which has resolution enhanced by factor four (64-by-64) relative array reduce cross talk neighboring pixels. results field experiments demonstrate can reconstruct image distance 1600 m. Even at acquisition time only 40 ms, targets area approximately 50% still be identified 200 frames. These potential prototype use in instantaneous high-density point-array measurement long-range wide-FoV 3D imaging, used sensing applications such airborne surveys mapping. In future, we will integrate pose system take aircraft-based imaging experiments.
